2016 President’s Youth Volunteer Service Award Qualifications and Nomination Process

The President’s Youth Volunteer Service Award was established in 2015, to recognize youth under the age of 21 who have made a positive impact on our program by volunteering and mentoring on the local or national level.

To qualify for the President’s Youth Volunteer Service Award, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Nominee’s must be a current or past racer under the age of 21 years old and has made a positive impact on the Soap Box Derby program.

The nomination process for the President’s Youth Volunteer Service Award is as follows:

Only Local Race Directors, Local Race Presidents, members of the Racing Commission, Rally Commission, Regional Directors or Headquarter Staff may nominate a candidate. The Nominator must submit a record of the nominee’s Soap Box Derby service hours and any service hours outside our program. Also required is a detailed description of the contribution and impact that the nominee has made on our program. 

If you would like to nominate someone for the 2016 President’s Youth Volunteer Service Award, the following information must be included in the submission and return to the International Soap Box Derby office no later than May 1, 2016.

Instructions and Information

Nominations must be typed and submitted directly to the International Soap Box Derby Headquarters electronically or via mail (see below).  Incomplete nominations or those that do not meet minimum requirements will be returned to nominators.

Nominations will be reviewed for accuracy and compliance by the ISBD staff. Complete nominations will be sent to the Nomination Committee for review of the value of the nominee’s contribution(s) to the International Soap Box Derby.

Your nomination submission is the primary tool used to determine the merits of each nominee for the President’s Youth Volunteer Service Award. Please refrain from sending petitions, photos, books, etc.  If additional materials are required, the ISBD will contact you. 

All submissions must include the following:

  1. Nominee’s name
  2. Nominee’s date of birth
  3. Years nominee participated in the program
  4. Years of service
  5. Soap Box Derby service hours
  6. Service hours outside of our Program
  7. Describe the nominee’s racing history with the International Soap Box Derby.
  8. Detailed description of contributions to the Soap Box Derby program (local, national or global).
  9. Present evidence that the nominee’s achievements have enduring value.  Where applicable, focus your comments on change that has been or will be created and how that change is expected to last over time.

The President’s Youth Volunteer Service Award will be presented on Saturday, July 16, 2016 during FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship awards ceremony in Akron, Ohio.
