Creative Designs of Cars In United Way Corporate Derby Challenge presented by Fallsway Equipment Company will be unveiled at Derby Downs Party on Thursday, July 13

The creativity of team members from 15 Akron area corporations and organizations competing in the United Way Corporate Derby Challenge presented by Fallsway Equipment Company will be unveiled during a party at Derby Downs on July 13.

Each summer, organizations participate in the fundraising race by purchasing an adult-size car kit from the Soap Box Derby organization. Once the chassis is assembled, teams customize and decorate the body of the race car to show off their creative design skills. The race is Friday, July 14 at Derby Downs.

The general public is invited to join the race teams at the Unveiling Party the evening before the race from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, in the Topside area of Derby Downs. There will be appetizers, adult beverages and entertainment. Cost for the party is $50 per person.

In addition to viewing the corporate cars, guests may visit the Soap Box Derby Hall of Fame and Museum and also be among the first to see all the championship racecars built by youngsters competing in the 80^th FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby on Saturday, July 22.

Teams competing in this year’s Corporate Derby Challenge include Bridgestone Americas, Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems, FirstEnergy, GOJO, Goodwill Industries, ProEvent Photo,  Bober Markey Fedorovich, Burns & McDonnell, Fallsway Equipment Company, CBIZ, J.W. Didado Electric, SC Fastening Systems, GPD Group, Taylor Made Jewelry and Repros, Inc.

United Way of Summit County is partnering with the Soap Box Derby organization to stage the Corporate Derby Challenge. Fallsway Equipment Company is the event’s presenting sponsor.  Proceeds benefit the Soap Box Derby’s Bill Speeg Scholarship Fund and help area at-risk youth with Soap Box Derby programs.
