03.05.2018

The International Soap Box Derby continues to grow its fundraising efforts as Geri Douglas Marshall has been hired as the first Director of Development.

“As we are in the middle of FY 2018, we welcome Geri as Director of Development.   The Director of Development position will intentionally further develop the Derby’s mission by increasing revenues and expanding our reach both regionally, nationally and internationally,” stated President & CEO Mark Gerberich.

The Derby continues to make great strides in ensuring its sustainability and mission. To further development and achieve our strategic goals, the Derby has hired the following individuals to fill these newly created positions.

Douglas Marshall, Certified Fund Raising Executive, will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing comprehensive grant, sponsorship and fundraising programs to support the Derby’s mission. Douglas Marshall brings with her more than 30 years in the development field and has worked for organizations including IBH Addiction Recovery Center, Medina General Hospital Foundation, Akron General Development Foundation, and Akron Children’s Hospital. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Muskingum University and received certification in Fundraising Management from the Institute of Healthcare Philanthropy, Wisconsin School of Business.

Cory Katzenmeyer has been hired as the Operations Coordinator to ensure that Derby Downs will be ready for our racing season, and will oversee the inventory component of parts and kits. Katzenmeyer was previously an intern for the Derby in 2016. Cory is a graduate of the University of Akron’s Sports Management program, and most recently worked for Copeco.

Evan Gannon, who also joins the team, replaces Lynne Collier as Race Coordinator when she retires in July. Evan is a graduate of the University of Akron’s Sports Management program and has held various positions at the University of Akron, Akron Rubber Ducks, Ritchie’s Sporting Goods, Lids Team Shop and Hibbett Sports.

In other staff moves, Morgan Garner has been promoted to Events Director and Heather Pulley moves up to Programs Manager.

“The future for the Derby will be to continue supporting our mission expanding our reach for the racing and education programs. We are excited to bring the talents of Geri, Cory, and Evan to the Derby team as we continue to provide meaningful experiences in the community,” stated President & CEO Mark Gerberich.
