08.07.2019

For the fourth year in a row, GPD Employees’ Foundation presents Inclusion Day at Derby Downs on Saturday, August 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Inclusion Day is an event for youth with all different abilities and their siblings, giving them the opportunity to ride down the 989-foot Derby Downs Track in a dual-operated Soap Box Derby car with an experienced pilot. Offered at the event is a place where participants can enjoy lunch, entertainment, and other activities that encourage involvement and inclusion.

“The Soap Box Derby is very excited that GPD Employees’ Foundation continues to partner with us for this community event,” stated Derby President and CEO Mark Gerberich. “Our mission is to provide meaningful experiences and includes youth with all different abilities along with their friends and families. This event is very important to us within the City of Akron and the County of Summit.”

“The kids, their families and our volunteers all enjoy the event. This event gives youth the chance to do things they don’t normally get to do.  It’s not just about the hill… There’s many activities going on – Fun for all,” stated GPD President Darrin Kotecki.

This event is only $5 per racer but an online registration is required for participants to secure their spot at inclusionday.soapboxderby.org.

The requirements for riders are as follows: participants must be ages 5 or older, weigh less than 185 pounds, must be able to wear a helmet and be able to ride down the Soap Box Derby track with trained pilot. A waiver form must be completed for all participants prior to being permitted to ride down the track.
