Local Companies are Invited to Compete in the 7th Annual United Way Corporate Derby Challenge™ presented by Fallsway Equipment Company

05.06.2016

The United Way Corporate Derby Challenge™ presented by Fallsway Equipment Company is a high-energy competition and ignites a team's competitive fire as they collaborate, assemble, design, decorate, and compete in an entertaining race with their own adult Soap Box Derby car. Corporations, small businesses, groups and community organizations can experience a very unique event that is sure to entertain.

The Corporate Derby Challenge involves teams working together to construct their own adult Soap Box Derby car chassis from a pre-manufactured kit provided by the Soap Box Derby. Once the car chassis is assembled, teams can tap into their creativity by designing and constructing their car.

“The feedback we received from the previous year’s participants has been fantastic,” said Soap Box Derby President and CEO Joe Mazur. “We are seeing some competitive fire ignited this year with teams signing up with the intent to beat the reigning champion.”

A new evening unveiling reception will be held on Thursday, July 7 where teams will reveal their Corporate Derby Challenge car. All participants will have the opportunity to vote on the best designed, constructed and decorated car. Attendees will enjoy appetizers, spirits, entertainment, and will be the first to see the champ cars that will be participating in the 2016 FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship.

On Friday, July 8, the activities will consist of trial runs for the teams, fun runs, tailgating, food trucks, and the Corporate Derby Challenge competition. Fans are invited to cheer on their favorite team and participate in the activities.

Trophies will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams and for the best designed, constructed and decorated cars.

Proceeds benefit the Soap Box Derby's scholarship fund, support for at-risk youth in Summit Country through scholarships to the 2017 summer camp at Derby Downs, Soap Box Derby car donations to local organizations serving at-risk youth in Summit County and Soap Box Derby’s 5th grade STEM-based curriculum will be placed in at-risk classrooms or after-school settings.
