FirstEnergyAll-American Soap Box Derby Countdown

NEW! California State Championship

The Soap Box Derby California State Championship Race took place over the weekend and was a great success!  Not only were the Stock and Super Stock Championship races held, but a major commercial was filmed during the event at the Livermore, CA track.  Nintendo was on site all day to film their commercial promoting the release of their newest game: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.  All of the racers and their families were very excited to be a part of such a unique experience.

The Nintendo Experience Lounge was set up near the track to allow racers access to play the new Mario Kart game before it is released to the public.  Several game consoles and big screen TVs were set up inside the lounge to create an optimal gaming experience for the young racers.  Nintendo’s film crew interviewed the kids as they took turns playing the game.  Filming took place an hour before the races began, during, and even a couple of hours after the conclusion of the races.  The entire day ran very smoothly as the races took place how they normally would and the Nintendo crew got the footage they needed for the commercial.

The excitement of filming a commercial did not steal the whole show this weekend, two new California State Champions were crowned in the Stock and Super Stock divisions!  Congratulations to Nicholas O’Brien of Elk Grove, CA for taking first place in the Stock division.  Taking second place is Ian Leyen of Discovery Bay, CA and in third place, Alex Roy of Elk Grove, CA.  The Champion of the Super Stock division is Amanda McVey of Palo Alto, CA.  Taking second place is Preston Knapp of Lake Forest, CA and coming in third place is Veronica Stagnaro of Danville, CA.  All of the racers gave an amazing effort and appeared to have a truly fun time competing against one another.
