Openings On The Racing Commission and A-Team

The FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby Racing Commission is looking for new members for the 2016 racing season.

Applications for the Racing Commission and A-Team are being accepted from the public until October 1, 2015. Elections will be held electronically in October.

All new applications must be received by October 1 to qualify the applicant. All existing Racing Commission members running for re-election must notify the Nominating Committee of their intentions before October 1.

The 2016 Racing Commission application requirements are as follows:

  • All application resumes must be in by October 1 to qualify the applicant.
  • All existing Racing Commission members running for re-election must notify the
    Nominating Committee before October 1 of their intentions.

All new applicants must provide the following information:

  1. List experience in Soap Box Derby and any positions held.
  2. Identify what assets the applicant has that will benefit the Racing Commission and the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby.
  3. Furnish three (3) references.
  4. Must be able to attend meetings each year including the mandatory meetings for the purpose of running the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby race program and rules reviews. Most of these meetings will be held during August, September, October and November. Attendance can occur via telephone conference calling.
  5. Will the applicant have a child intending to race within the next three (3) years from the date of election?

Duties of the Racing Commission:

  1. Participate in Championship Race Week activities in Akron Ohio.
  2. Participate in monthly board meetings in person or by Telephone conferencing.
  3. Accept responsibilities throughout the year that may be required to perform special functions pertaining to FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby functions and rules.

For example:

  1. Rule Books and plan modifications.
  2. Wheel calibrations.
  3. Design of kit parts and equipment.
  4. Fielding and answering of questions.
  5. Design of various racing programs.
  6. Learn the operation of the different aspics of Race Week.
  7. Maintain the integrity of the Racing Commission at all levels.
  8. Help to support the World’s Greatest Amateur Racing Program.
