Gravity Racing Challenge
High School Engineering Design Challenge

Presented by

Csb Engineering1c

The Gravity Racing Challenge High School Engineering Design Challenge (formerly titled Open Class) began in 2015 at the Akron GRC race. The idea for the Challenge came from High School educators already involved with the Gravity Racing Challenge STEM Team Competition in the Super Stock car division. High School students enjoyed being part of the GRC teams but their teachers/mentors wanted them to be more involved with the engineering design process of building a Soap Box Derby car.

High School teams in the High School Engineering Design Challenge construct Soap Box Derby cars using the Derby's High School Engineering Design Soap Box Derby kit. Teams assemble the chassis of their car according to the provided plans. They then use their creativity, engineering and design skills to build the shell according to the guidelines of the Challenge.

Teams compete for two awards during the High School Engineering Design Challenge:
1. Fastest Car
2. Best Designed Car

2015
Fastest Car - National Inventors Hall of Fame STEM High School
Best Designed Car - Copley High School (Mystery Machine)

2016

2017
