Soap Box Derby Mini-Car Program

To further promote its mission to “educate and inspire youth,” the International Soap Box Derby® developed the Soap Box Derby Mini-Car Program. The program is designed for grades 3-5 classrooms, enrichment, after school, and summer programs. This innovative program features a customized, all-inclusive NEW activity workbook.

The NEW workbook contains six activities:

STUDENT ACTIVITY 1: What is Derby?
Start your journey of learning about Soap Box Derby cars and racing!

STUDENT ACTIVITY 2: The Best Shaped Car
In this activity, you get to do two of the best things ever: race and use Play-Doh®!

STUDENT ACTIVITY 3: Mini-Car Kit
Take inventory of your entire mini-car kit and become super familiar with the vocabulary that all racers use!

STUDENT ACTIVITY 4: True to Its Size and Shape?
Discover the effects that wheel characteristics have on the speed of your Soap Box Derby Car

STUDENT ACTIVITY 5: Building Your Car
In this activity, you get to build your own Mini-Car!

STUDENT ACTIVITY 6: What Does Weight Have to Do With It?
Discover how to make your car the fastest one on the track!

Within each activity are tasks that take the learner on a journey where they eventually get to race their
Mini Soap Box Derby car. All totaled there are 18 tasks and approximately 12 hours of instruction!

Each activity contains two to four tasks organized in a manner that is easy to follow with sections that include:

Arts: Visual & Fine Art, Creativity & Expression, Analyzing & Interpretation, Application, Connecting, Production.
