FirstEnergyAll-American Soap Box Derby Countdown

Local Race History of Martinsburg, WV

In 1999, A small group of memebers from the Norwalk Antique Car Club began reminiscing about their experiences with the 1951 Soap Box Derby Race held in Martinsburg. It was the last race for almost 50 years. That small group of club members began talking to others in the community and before long, a seed was planted that began to grow into the return of the derby in 2000.

Without the help and support of many businesses, organizations, government agencies, and hardworking individuals who volunteered countless hours and resources, there would not have been a race down Queen Street that year, or any year since. In 2017 the derby joined forces with Main Street Martinsburg in order to keep this annual local tradition alive.

The Norwalk Soap Box Derby Association appreciates the efforts of so many on behalf of our youth. Good luck to all drivers on race day and a huge note of thanks to all the adults who have made the race possible for these young people.
