Canton Move It Now will be the title sponsor of the Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby® race on Sunday, June 26 on Main Street in Sugarcreek, Ohio.

“We’re thankful that Canton Move It Now has stepped up to support the kids in our community,” said Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby President Tim Hiller. “We recently went through a very difficult situation with a fire back in October that destroyed a number of cars and equipment. A lot of people from the area have helped us put the organization back together and we’re thrilled that Canton Move It Now is the title sponsor of the race.”

The Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby started in 1936 with the first race being held on Main Street in Sugarcreek. Each year champions advance to the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship race in Akron. There have been two World Champions who have qualified through the Tuscarawas Soap Box Derby local race. Phil Raber was the very first Kit Car champion in 1976, and Meghan Frantz captured the Rally Masters title in 2011.

“We’re excited to add our support to the Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby,” said Move It Now Owner Ken Slama. “We read about the fire they had so we felt it would be a great opportunity for our company to be involved with such an All-American activity that has a long history in the area and help them get their program back on track.”

Children ages 7-20 are eligible to race in the Soap Box Derby. The winners of the Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby race qualify for the 79th running of the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship race at Akron’s Derby Downs Track, July 10-16. A message from the All-American Soap Box Derby

The Soap Box Derby is a youth racing program which has run nationally since 1934. World Championship finals are held each July at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio.

The idea of the Soap Box Derby grew out of a photographic assignment of Dayton, Ohio, newsman Myron Scott. He covered a race of boy-built cars in his home community and was so impressed with this event that he acquired a copyright for the idea and began development of a similar program on a national scale.
