Tournaments have provided over $25 million to local charities seeking to improve the quality of life in northeast Ohio. Organizations that have benefitted from the proceeds of tournaments include Akron Children's Hospital, the American Red Cross, Golden Age Centers of Cleveland, the Regional Food Banks of both Akron-Canton and Cleveland, Metroparks, the Akron Art Museum and the International Soap Box Derby. Not only were the Stock and Super Stock Championship races held, but a major commercial was filmed during the event at the Livermore, CA track. Nintendo was on site all day to film their commercial promoting the release of their newest game: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. All of the racers and their families were very excited to be a part of such a unique experience. One of the strategic goals was to increase the value of the Soap Box Derby brand by communicating and promoting the Soap Box Derby’s mission and programs. One of the objectives was to ensure brand/logo consistency by reviewing logo design and establishing usage requirements for use by partners, sponsors and licensed race locations.

Wilson today announced that UA’s College of Engineering is partnering with the Soap Box Derby on its Gravity Racing Challenge (GRC) STEM Team Competition. The College has been named the presenting sponsor of the competitions held in Akron, Cleveland, Columbus and Marysville, Ohio. "Three years from now, people will look back and marvel at the changes," said Mazur during that interview. Read More Derby Spotlight - Nevin Ream 03.14.2017 Soap Box Derby racing was a major part of Nevin Ream’s life. It quickly became a family affair for the Ream’s as they all enjoyed Derby racing, from building his car to cheering him on at various races. According to Nevin’s father Bob Ream, “he loved racing with all of his heart. From that first year in 2000 of losing his last two races and finishing second, to crashing in the National Derby Rallies in 2005, he always put his heart and soul into it.” Nevin recently passed away in December 2016 just shy of his 28th birthday.
