A native of Los Angeles, Allen worked for two of the sport's icons as a mechanic, fueler and parts man in the 1960s and early 1970s for Dan Gurney's All American Racers before moving over to A.J. Foyt Enterprises.

A love for making and racing soap box derby cars sent Allen on a path that would eventually lead him to motor racing and two of its great innovators.

Derby Spotlight - Bob Ballard 08.24.2017 Bob Ballard was born to be an engineer. The moment he set foot on the Derby track his fate was aligned. Even at a young age, Bob found that building, designing, testing and engineering Soap Box Derby cars intrigued him. His racing lead him to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute to obtain a degree in mechanical engineering; a second degree in electrical engineering would soon follow. Derby Spotlight- Jenn Baugher 07.24.2017 Jenn Baugher grew up in Akron, Ohio beginning her Soap Box Derby racing career in 1992 at the age of eight. She was the first and only member of her family to take part in the sport. By participating in the Derby, it allowed Jenn to become closer to her father, an engineer who enjoyed helping her build her Stock and Super Stock Derby cars.
