Record Number of Schools and Clubs Set to Compete in the Soap Box Derby's Gravity Racing Challenge STEM Team Competition presented by The University of Akron College of Engineering 05.11.2017 More than 180 teams from three states are set to compete in the Soap Box Derby’s Gravity Racing Challenge© (GRC) STEM Team Competition presented by The University of Akron College of Engineering. On May 18th and 20th teams will compete in the traditional Stock and Super Stock divisions, along with the High School Engineering Design Challenge Division. Even as a kid, he enjoyed relating math and science to real-world situations and activities, this is where Derby racing came into play. Tournaments have provided over $25 million to local charities seeking to improve the quality of life in northeast Ohio. Organizations that have benefitted from the proceeds of tournaments include Akron Children's Hospital, the American Red Cross, Golden Age Centers of Cleveland, the Regional Food Banks of both Akron-Canton and Cleveland, Metroparks, the Akron Art Museum and the International Soap Box Derby. Read More NEW! California State Championship 04.05.2017 The Soap Box Derby California State Championship Race took place over the weekend and was a great success! Not only were the Stock and Super Stock Championship races held, but a major commercial was filmed during the event at the Livermore, CA track. Nintendo was on site all day to film their commercial promoting the release of their newest game: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. All of the racers and their families were very excited to be a part of such a unique experience. One of the strategic goals was to increase the value of the Soap Box Derby brand by communicating and promoting the Soap Box Derby’s mission and programs. One of the objectives was to ensure brand/logo consistency by reviewing logo design and establishing usage requirements for use by partners, sponsors and licensed race locations.
