Greater Lafayette Soap Box Derby

                                        June 12, 2021

Greater Lafayette Soap Box Derby races three divisions: Stock, Super Stock, and Challenger. 

Stock and Super Stock winners are eligible to compete at the 83nd First Energy All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio, July 18-24, 2021. 

Age Limitations:

  • Stock Division drivers must be at least 7 years old by our race day and must not turn 14 on or before July 31, 2021.
  • Super Stock Division drivers must be 9 years old by July 31, 2021 and must not turn 19 on or before July 31, 2021.
  • There is also a Master Division for kids up to 20 years old.  Please contact Ted or Russ at the numbers below for more information on this race division.

Organizers of the GLSBD are all volunteers and we are always looking for additional help!

A message from the All-American Soap Box Derby

The Soap Box Derby is a youth racing program which has run nationally since 1934. World Championship finals are held each July at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio.

The idea of the Soap Box Derby grew out of a photographic assignment of Dayton, Ohio, newsman Myron Scott. He covered a race of boy-built cars in his home community and was so impressed with this event that he acquired a copyright for the idea and began development of a similar program on a national scale.
