FirstEnergyAll-American Soap Box Derby Countdown

The New Hampshire Soap Box Derby provides opportunities for girls and boys ages 7 years old & up to assemble, then take the steering wheel of their gravity powered car down a 500 ft or more track in side by side competition. Our mission is to build knowledge and character, and to create meaningful experiences through collaboration and fair and honest competition.  Participating in soap box derby provides students the opportunity to sharpen their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) skills. Mechanical skills along with an appreciation of physics and mathematics define a winning racer.  The NHSBD hosts an Annual Local Championship Race and Rally races.  Qualified racers have the opportunity to race in July at the First Energy All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship in Akron, Ohio.

A message from the All-American Soap Box Derby

The Soap Box Derby is a youth racing program which has run nationally since 1934. World Championship finals are held each July at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio.

The idea of the Soap Box Derby grew out of a photographic assignment of Dayton, Ohio, newsman Myron Scott. He covered a race of boy-built cars in his home community and was so impressed with this event that he acquired a copyright for the idea and began development of a similar program on a national scale.
