NewsSoap Box Derby Receives Grant from Mary S. and David C. Corbin Foundation06.14.2018International Soap Box Derby (ISBD) announced today it has received a $25,000 grant from the Akron-based Mary S. and David C. Corbin Foundation for general operating expenses. “This generous grant is a very important part of ISBD’s funding and we sincerely appreciate the long history of support from the Corbin Foundation,” said Mark Gerberich president and CEO of ISBD. Gerberich said the funds will help enhance activities for racers, their families and spectators visiting Akron for the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby in July, help expand the Soap Box Derby’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education programs and grow participation in Soap Box Derby programs around the country. “The Corbin Foundation support will also provide us with the opportunity to provide “meaningful experiences” in the underserved Akron and Summit County communities, especially with the youth,” Gerberich added. The 81st All-American Soap Box Derby world championships will be at Derby Downs on Saturday, July 21.
