NewsUnited Way Corporate Derby Challenge presented by Fallsway Equipment Company Results07.16.2018The team from SC Fastening Systems won first place in the United Way Corporate Derby Challenge presented by Fallsway Equipment Company at Derby Downs on Friday, July 13. Each summer, organizations participate in this fund-raising race by purchasing an adult-size car kit from the Soap Box Derby organization. Once the chassis is assembled, teams customize and decorate the body of the race car to show off their creative design skills. The Macedonia-based distributor of industrial and construction supplies out-raced 37 other teams to earn bragging rights for the 2018 competition. Finishing second was Akron accounting firm Schulte & Company. Akron agency Full Spectrum Marketing finished third. The car entered by Akron’s GPD Group, the architecture and engineering firm, won the award for best design and decoration. United Way of Summit County partners with the Soap Box Derby organization to stage the Corporate Derby Challenge with Fallsway Equipment Company as the event’s presenting sponsor. Proceeds benefit the Soap Box Derby’s general operations and to support at-risk youth with Soap Box Derby programs. “We are grateful for the generous support and competitive spirit of Akron area corporations and organizations who participate in this fun event,” said Mark Gerberich, president and chief executive officer of International Soap Box Derby, Inc. More than 425 boys and girls from throughout the United States and Canada are in Akron this week for activities leading up to the 81st FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby at Derby Downs on Saturday, July 21.
