Kansas City Soap Box Derby Schedule

 

Open Track Times 

 

  • Tuesday, April 10th, 6pm to dusk and Thursday, April 12th, 6pm to dusk
  • Saturday, May 5th, 10am to 1pm
  • Tuesday, June 12th, 6pm to dusk and Thursday, June 14th, 6pm to dusk
  • Tuesday, August 14th, 6pm to dusk and Thursday, August 16th, 6pm to dusk
  • Tuesday, October 9th, 6pm to dusk and Thursday, October 11th, 6pm to dusk

 

Come catch the "Thrill of the Hill.' We will have soap box derby cars available for any boy or girl age 7 to 21 to try out. New drivers never start out from the top of the hill. We take them part way down the hill and let them coast to the bottom.  If we feel they can handle it, we gradually let them start out higher and higher on the hill until they are ready to start from the top. Drivers who can drive successfully from the top of the hill will be issued an Official KCSBD Driver's License.

 

April 14 & 15 (Saturday & Sunday) - All-American Spring Rally

 

All-American races are open to drivers ages 7-18. We will hold one double elimination and one single elimination race on Saturday in addition to one double elimination and one single elimination race on Sunday, weather permitting.

 

Race fee options:

 

  • $35 per race
  • $100 per 4 race weekend

 

June 16 (Saturday) - All-American Local Race

 

To race in the Local your car needs to be inspected. Inspections will announced at a later date. If you can't make it, please contact Steve Yonker @ 816-807-1016   

The winner in each division of this race will go on to represent Kansas City in the All-American Championship Race in Akron, OH in July 2017! This will be a double elimination race.

 

Race fee options:

 

  • $35 per race

 

June 16 (Saturday) - All-American Local Awards Banquet

 

Location to be announced. There will be trophies, prizes and goodies for all race participants!

 

August 18 & 19 (Saturday & Sunday) - All-American Summer Rally

 

All-American races are open to drivers ages 7-18. We will hold one double elimination and one single elimination race on Saturday in addition to one double elimination and one single elimination race on Sunday, weather permitting.

  • $35 per race
  • $100 per 4 race weekend

 

October 13 & 14 (Saturday & Sunday) - All-American Fall Rally

 

All-American races are open to drivers ages 7-18. We will hold one double elimination and one single elimination race on Saturday in addition to one double elimination and one single elimination race on Sunday, weather permitting.

The Derby is the official sanctioning body of Soap Box Derby racing and has exclusive licensing partnerships with more than 100 racing districts throughout world. These racing districts conduct sanctioned Soap Box Derby races throughout the year and qualify champs for the annual FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby® World Championship race at the world famous Derby Downs Track in Akron, Ohio. 

The Derby's Education Program is a fast-growing component of the organization and includes a STEM-Based Curriculum, the Gravity Racing Challenge® STEM Team Competition and a Mini Soap Box Derby program. 

The Derby also operates the world famous Derby Downs Track in Akron, Ohio where events are held throughout the racing season.

The Board of Directors oversees the operation of the Derby, and the day-to-day activities are handled by the Headquarters staff in Akron.
