2024 Hall of Fame Inductee Tim Hiller Passes at 66

             

WAS THE NATION’S LONGEST-SERVING ACTIVE LOCAL RACE DIRECTOR

Tim Hiller of New Philadelphia, Ohio, long-time volunteer race director of the Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby, died on Thursday, December 26. He was inducted into the Soap Box Derby Hall of Fame during race week ceremonies in Akron this past July.

Tim, 66, competed for five years in the Tuscarawas County local race beginning in 1969.   He became a volunteer soon afterwards and had been race director since 1984. He was the longest-serving active Soap Box Derby director in the nation. Tim’s goal always was to run a fair and memorable race program for Soap Box Derby racers and families. He was a retired machine maintenance specialist.

He is survived by his wife Deana; his daughter Ashley Beamer; step-daughter Jessica Wardell; five grandchildren, two sisters and a brother.

His family will receive friends on Thursday, January 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover, Ohio, where services will be held on Friday, January 3 at 11 a.m.
