NewsInternational Soap Box Derby Receives $50,000 Grant From GAR Foundation02.24.2015The Distribution Committee of GAR Foundation awarded the International Soap Box Derby $50,000 for general operations in 2015 at its February meeting. The International Soap Box Derby is a nonprofit organization serving youth and adults in the Greater Akron area. The award from GAR will be used to continue the Derby’s mission of building knowledge and character, and creating meaningful experiences through collaboration and fair and honest competition. “The Derby has gone through a notable transformation over the last several years and GAR Foundation has been a large supporter of that transformation,” said Derby President & CEO Joe Mazur. “GAR’s mission is to invest in Greater Akron to promote quality of life, education, and economic opportunities for its people, in a culturally vibrant community. The Derby is extremely grateful to have GAR as a partner.” In addition to the $50,000 from GAR Foundation in 2015, the Derby previously received $70,000 for its expansion of educational offerings through the STEM-based Education Program.
