    WHERE CHAMPIONS ARE MADE

About Us

2023 will mark the 15th local Championship Race in Denver after a hiatus in 2021 and 2022.  We are excited to get a new beginning for the program and have planned our Local Championship Race for all 4 Classes (Stock, Super Stock, Masters and Super Kids) if there is enough interest.  We are planning a Rally in May 2023 TBD and the local race for June 24-25.

History of Strong Competition from the Denver Area

  • We are proud that we had an All American Soap Box Derby World Champion in the Rally Masters Division in 2018.  Allison Pankoff is the first legitimate World Champion from Colorado.
  • Danielle Huckleberg from Littleton placed 3rd in Local Super Stock World Championships in 2010.
  • Ethan Elstun from Centennial Place 4th in the Local Stock World Championships in 2022 Racing on behalf of Colorado Springs, CO Local Race.
  • Owen Strong from Little placed 6th in Local Stock in 2020 representing Ogalalla, NE.

RACE TO READ Program with Bandimere Speedway

This exciting new endeavor for the Sertoma Mile High Soap Box Derby was started several years ago with a nice bit of success.  New strategies were tried toward furthering our growth rather than holding spring rallies. This year we hoped to continue this program.

We got involved with Bandimere’s Race to Read six-week reading program, spreading word and invitations to our racing program to potential new families. The Race to Read program encourages literacy by providing an exciting race-themed incentive for elementary-age students of 70 local schools. Flyers describing the program and inviting families to come try out soap box derby were handed out at the Bandimere Speedway event which brought us new racers.

We hope to spark more interests and resulting racers this year. We hope to provide opportunities for families to learn more about soap box derby while providing safe outdoor activities such as barbeques, experiences at gravity racing, and games and clinics revolved around soap box derby racing.
