NewsThank You Thursday - Fallsway Equipment Company04.27.2017 Over the past four years Akron-based Fallsway Equipment Company has partnered with the International Soap Box Derby on a number of programs. In 2014 they were the presenting sponsor of Grandparents Day at Derby Downs along with the City of Akron. In 2016 they became the presenting sponsor of the United Way Corporate Derby Challenge which benefits the Soap Box Derby's Bill Speeg Memorial Scholarship Fund and supports at-risk youth in Summit County through the Derby’s STEM-based Education Program. Fallsway Equipment is the distributor of CAT, Mitsubishi, Jungheinrich, Kalmar, and Manitou manufacturers in Canton, Akron, Youngstown, Mansfield, and Marion, Ohio. Fallsway is also a truck and warehouse equipment distributor in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Indiana, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Fallsway has its own historic tie to the Soap Box Derby. The Owner and CEO of Fallsway Equipment Company, Harry Fairhurst, was a part of the Soap Box Derby back in 1956. That year, the Akron Beacon Journal voted Harry’s car the best design in the competition. Harry’s original car was on display at Grandparents Day and attendees marveled at its beauty. A really special moment took place near the end of the event when Harry’s grandson, Greyson Fairhurst, took his grandpa’s 1956 car down the very same hill his grandpa had competed on over 50 years ago. “Fallsway has been a tremendous partner,” said Derby Vice President Bobby Dinkins. “Because of their investment in our program we’ve been able to create so many meaningful experiences for kids, adults and seniors at the world famous Derby Downs track.” The Derby would like to say THANK YOU to Fallsway Equipment Company for helping us continue our mission of building knowledge and character, and creating meaningful experiences through collaboration and fair and honest competition. This is the 31st installment of our weekly “Thank You Thursday” feature. Each week we will offer a heartfelt “Thank You” to a corporation, civic or community leader, volunteer, foundation or an individual who has helped us continue our mission.
